My current practice is rooted in oil painting but expands outward into drawing, writing, installation, and material experimentation. Much of my work begins in observation—long, reflective time spent in nature, where I pay attention to cycles, textures, stillness, and the emotional logic of a landscape. I also immerse myself in books, films, and music that echo the themes I paint: femininity, embodiment, ecology, and the ways women have historically existed as both mythic and material figures.

My process is both chaotic and intuitive. I constantly sketch, test materials, make small studies, and explore other mediums to think through ideas before they become paintings. I’m drawn to softness, vulnerability, and uncertainty as forms of inquiry, not passivity. These qualities guide how images form and shift.

Community and dialogue are central to the way I work. I thrive in shared creative environments where ideas pass between people, where critique and conversation open unexpected pathways, and where collaboration becomes part of the generative process. Increasingly, I’m exploring how painting can extend beyond the canvas into spatial or installation-based experiences—creating environments that hold emotional and ecological resonance, and that invite viewers into a more intimate, contemplative encounter with the work.

this page is a work in progress- some writing, my inspirations , and a virtual collage of josie stuff. enjoy. (last updated 11/17/25)

Right now, my primary artistic goal is to expand my oil painting practice into a more immersive, installation-based direction. I want to continue blurring the lines between painting and environment—creating spaces that invite viewers into the emotional and ecological worlds that my work gestures toward. I’m also refining my relationship with materials by incorporating ceramics, fabric, and natural elements.
